"Shooting
the rubble and personal effects that it contained was an important
part of my documentation. I feared that people would become desensitized
by seeing constant images of the towers collapsing and forget that
HUMAN BEINGS were inside. With that in mind, I felt that by shooting
personal effects and symbolic items it would help humanize the event
and help people connect to the real tragedy of what was lost: Human
Life."
-Gary Marlon Suson, From an interview in Amsterdam, Holland
"I was
very much moved when I saw the Anne Frank Museum in Holland. Anne's
story and images put a real face on the Holocaust. That experience
was a major influence when I conceived the "Band of Dads"
series; my goal was to put a face on the victim's families and thus
a face on the victims. Most of the men were retired FDNY firemen
who spent 8 months digging for their missing firemen sons. Many
tears were shed in the process of these shoots, as personal items
of their sons were brought out and I will always appreciate the
trust that the men placed in me as I captured these moments.."
-Gary Marlon Suson, From a WBOS radio interview in Boston
"I don't think this is a coincidence
that 55mph hurricane
gale winds are coming through New York today, blowing into
the Ground Zero site and creating giant, blinding dust/dirt swirls
down in the pit on the one-year anniversary..Something quite
spiritually powerful and beyond our grasp is going on here today.
I know it, the recovery workers know it and the families know it.."

I hope my images will insure that people never forget"
-Gary Suson, BBC Radio Interview, England 2002

"BIBLE AMID RUBBLE IS TESTAMENT TO FAITH"
- NEW YORK POST
"Buried under tons of World Trade Center
Steel and rubble, rescue workers
found a page from the Bible that spoke of a tower that reached to
the heavens. The shocking revelation of faith and hope is "a
sign from God that he is still watching over us," said actor
and photographer Gary Marlon Suson, who found the passage from Genesis,
about the Tower of Babel, amid the ruins. "After more than
93 days of fires, a skinny, little, frail page from the Bible survived.
I find it quite unbelievable," he told The POST.
